About Oman Oman, officially the Sultanate of Oman, is an Arab country on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia. Holding a strategically important position at the mouth of the Persian Gulf, the country shares land borders with the United Arab Emirates to the northwest, Saudi Arabia to the west, and Yemen to the southwest, and shares marine borders with Iran and Pakistan. The coast is formed by the Arabian Sea on the southeast and the Gulf of Oman on the northeast.

Formation of the Association

The Oman Dermatology Society (ODS) was established in Muscat in 2006, as a national body for dermatology. This was within the main tertiary care centre of Al Nahdha Hospital where the Department of Dermatology was first established in 1972. ODS was initiated to address dermatological resources in healthcare services for diagnosis and management of common skin diseases in Oman. The society was conceptualized to gather all dermatologists and venereologists to share and discuss the clinical practice, education and research relevant in dermatologic medicine, surgery and related discipline. Oman Dermatology Society is affiliated to Oman Medical Association and is under the patronage of Ministry of Social Development. The Society’s aim is to cater the academic needs of all the dermatologists in the Ministry of Health, Government and private sectors. Members are encouraged to conduct research and studies inclined in the field of specialization. The Dermatology Department in Al Nahdha Hospital is also a teaching faculty for undergraduate students from Sultan Qaboos University as well as a centre for post-graduates from Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) which is affiliated to the Arab Board of Medical Specialization in Dermatology, Syria. In addition to dermatology residents, it is also involved in training OMSB Residents from other departments like Internal Medicine, Emergency, Paediatric and Family Medicine. It also arranges short clinical training for General Practitioners from Health Centers.
